Fact no. 1/
Nainital Lake, fondly known as Naini Lake, is a jewel in the lake district of Uttarakhand. --- its namesake Nainital

Fact no. 3/
Legend has it that this crown jewel of Nainital was created by three sages --- Atri, Pulastya ,and Pulaha ----- and is hence, also referred to as Tri-Rishi-Sarover . On one of their pilgrimages, the gurus realized that there was no source of water to quench their thirst. So, they dug a hole and filled it with water from the hallowed Mansarovar Lake ----- this is what we know today as the Nainital Lake!

Surrounded by panoramic hills and with lakes such as Bhimtal, Naukuchital, and Sattal as its neighbours , Naini is a tourist's paradise. It is quite common to view yachts, with gaily-coloured sails, drift , or make their way about on the picturesque lake's serene waters.

How did colonialism find a footing in Nainital? According to historical records, a British merchant --- P. Barron --- came across Naini and was so taken up with its beauty and splendour, and surrounding woodland and settlements, that he returned and built ''Pilgrim's Cottage'' for himself ---- a summer home for a Britisher Who loved sailing. Thus was sown the seed of colonialism..
